Denver, CO (PRWEB) November 20, 2009 — e-fense is partnering with renowned investigator Charles Tendell, CEO of eCSI to provide training to the computer forensics and cyber security community. With e-fense’s extraordinary Helix3 products and eCSI’s commitment to share the knowledge in conducting proper investigations this strategic partnership will benefit all.
“2009 has been an extraordinary year at e-fense,” said CEO, Steve Bederman. e-fense has literally re-architected the entire company. In an earlier press release they had announced that many of the services and software products would be distributed utilizing both a direct sales model and a small but elite group of master distributors. Bederman says, “e-fense had diligently worked on its product line for over 8 years. We started doing investigative services and migrated to software to assist our own investigations. Once we successfully developed our products, they became recognized for their ease of use and innovative approach to data gathering and forensics. We had no intention to dilute our efforts with just any strategic partnerships. Rather, we have selected a small group of the better of the best.”
Today, e-fense announced the partnership for all training services with Electronic Crime Scene
Investigations, eCSI. “We believe that there are currently many wonderful data capture and forensic tools available on the market. This especially is so for AccessData and e-fense products. Our belief is that what we are missing is the hands-on training in how best to use those tools in critical moments,” said Lauren LaFortuna, Managing Director of e-fense. The selection of eCSI is the strongest play we can make to convince law enforcement, private investigators, and corporate compliance officers that we mean business. Charles Tendell, CEO of eCSI explained, “eCSI was founded on a promise to be a leader in accurate and innovative investigations. There is no room for error in this age of cyber crime. I have personally led many investigations while using and developing tools to assist in and ensure that effort. Helix3 products are outstanding, but without proper investigative cyber training, it isn’t always enough.” This partnership assures everyone that e-fense and eCSI will become the leading resource for a wide range of training. The training courses will be available for both onsite and web based sessions.
eCSI is Denver’s premier digital investigation firm, specializing in electronic crime scene investigations, eDiscovery, and computer forensics. Computer investigator helping Craigslist scam victim fight back
October 26, 2009
DENVER – Amberay Synder put her own safety at risk when she decided to hunt down the scammer who tried to rip her off. It all started when she tried to sell her futon on Craigslist and was contacted by a man who calls himself, “Harvey Goldfarb.”
Harvey sent her a check for $2200 that turned out to be fake.
‘I was very angry,” Amberay said. But instead of getting mad, Amberay tried to get even.
She pretended to befriend the criminal, even agreed to work with him, all while she was gathering information to get him caught.
Her case is being investigated by the Secret Service, an agency inundated with online scams.
But after seeing our story, Colorado computer investigator Charles Tendell offered to help.
“I’m going to find this guy.” Tendell says.
Using Amberay’s information and his own expertise, Tendell has traced “Harvey’s” email to a home in Boca Raton Florida. The computer IP address, however, is connected to an address in Africa. So Tendell put a trace on an email he sent to “Harvey,” and as soon he opens it, “we’ll have our man,” he says.
Tendell says as soon as he tracks Harvey down he’ll let us know.
Tendell says if you are scammed by someone online, it’s important to save their email address and the header information.

The Right Fit
October 12, 2009
With so many vendors using the same 12 words to describe their
electronic data discovery services, no wonder general counsel and
outside firms often feel overwhelmed when trying to evaluate companies.
But the key to vetting, hiring and managing vendors is asking the right
questions, say John Reilly and Stephen Schutter in "The Right Fit," part of Law Technology News' October issue, EDD Showcase: GC Perspectives.
Reilly,
an associate GC for Lorillard Tobacco Co., and Schutter, of counsel to
Shook, Hardy & Bacon, offer concrete suggestions for drafting
vendor contracts, reminding readers to address a wide range of topics,
including quality control, warranties and remedial provisions, training
and support, pricing, disaster recovery and reports.
Colorado judge Craig Shaffer on the importance of eDiscovery.
October 11, 2009
My blog this week consists of an exclusive 15 minute, must-see video by two judges, Ronald J. Hedges and Craig B. Shaffer. Craig Shaffer is a U.S. Magistrate Judge in Colorado. Judge Shaffer is well known to everyone in the e-discovery world as the author of the Land O’Lakes opinion. Cache La Poudre Feeds, LLC v. Land O’Lakes Farmland Feed, LLC, 2007 WL 684001 (D.Colo. 2007). Ron Hedges shown above is a former U.S. Magistrate Judge in New Jersey (1986-2007). Ron is well known to everyone in the industry as one of the leading lights from the judiciary. They took time this month to talk about what they think is important in e-discovery, including: advice on case management; staging; proactivity; ethics; proportionality; the proper use of vendors; the need to educate judges about your case; and, the special opportunities in e-discovery for young lawyers today.
